Objective of the project

Strengthen National Human Rights Institutions (INDH) and OECD National Contact Points (PNC) in Colombia and Peru in their role of facilitating access to non-judicial redress mechanisms for human rights abuses related to business activities . The project includes a series of exchange meetings between the different institutions around a series of issues that the institutions deal with as part of their processes for dealing with complaints or other activities aimed at facilitating access to redress, such as: labor rights , rights of indigenous peoples, integration of a gender perspective, environment and human rights.

Main achievements & activities

  • Exchange sessions

Six exchange sessions were held with officials from the Ombudsman’s Offices and NCPs of Colombia and Peru on the following topics related to non-judicial mechanisms for business and human rights reparations:

– The mandate of NHRIs and NCPs.

– Labor rights

– Indigenous peoples’ rights

– Gender dimensions

– Environmental issues

– The right to reparation

  • Analytical papers

Five analytical papers were prepared on the following topics in relation to non-judicial mechanisms of redress in business and human rights:

– Labor rights

– Indigenous peoples’ rights

– Gender dimensions

– Environmental issues

– The right to reparation

  • Dissemination spaces and mechanisms

Three spaces were held to disseminate the results of the project and infographics were produced based on the analytical documents. The first dissemination space brought together NHRIs and NCPs from Latin America, with whom the project results were shared and the different themes of the exchange sessions were discussed. More than 45 collaborators from these institutions participated. The two remaining spaces were held in workshop format and were aimed at civil society organizations in Peru and Colombia, in a face-to-face format.
